Alyss CooperLives in New York as a VAMPIRE*
[/blockquote] »Welcome to New York!
NAME:
Alyss Cooper NICK NAMES:
None, she goes by the name of Alyss and Alyss only (pronounced as Alice) RACE:
psychological vampire AGE:
Around 640 but she doesn't look a day older then 24 GRADE:
None ORIENTATION:
Heterosexual. Her preference is men, but on occasion she's known to go after the women and do whatever it takes to get a bit of the precious blood. FACE CLAIM:
Maria Brink, of In This Moment »Concrete Jungle's What Dreams are Made of...
EYE COLOR:
Normally steel gray, but after feeding they turn to a brilliant shade of blue HAIR:
Champagne bond hair that's usually worn loosely down her shoulders. Alyss' hair is her pride and glory HEIGHT:
5'7 WEIGHT:
140 lbs CLOTHING STYLE:
Her style differs from decade to decade, but she has always managed to find middle ground between style and comfort. Right now her style leans more towards the "punk rock" side with skinny jeans, band shirts, short dresses and knee-high boots. No matter the era, she's never seen without knee-high boots. She has a collection of dresses, and at the moment her favorite is a short blue dress that makes her look a more demented version of Alice from "Alice in Wonderland". »Nothing you Can't Do...FAMILY:
Mother: Alyssa Cooper (deceased; taken by illness) Father: Jonathan Cooper (deceased; drank himself to death after the passing of his wife and children.) Twin brother: Aiden Cooper (deceased; taken by illness with his mother) Ex husband: Conrad Darcy (deceased; murdered by Alyss after she turned into a vampire)
HOMETOWN:
Alyss doesn't have just one place she considers to be "home". She was born in Munich, Germany, and although she considers Moscow to be home she spent nearly 50 years living in various parts of Alaska. She spent the most time in Anchorage, and since she spent the longest amount of time there then anywhere else she considers it to be home. PERSONALITY:
Temperamental & Fierce - she has a tendency to be hostile, especially when meeting strangers, and a violent temper. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. When in one of rages she goes on a zombie killing rampage and fights with ferocity, but when this happens she's usually in a blind rage which makes rational thinking nearly impossible.
Antisocial - Alyss comes off as an ice queen because she can't stand to be around people, and when she's forced to interact with them she refuses to get close. Being polite is a huge effort and she rather just be left alone.
Mistrusting, cautious - She doesn't trust anyone other then herself, and because of this she's overly cautious and constantly watches her back.
PAST:
I may die, and die pouring crimson regret.... and betrayal.
Alyss Cooper loved him. She cared for him, did everything he asked her to do, and how did he repay her? By slitting open her throat. Conrad Darcy, the man that had been her husband of eight years, watched with his cold back eyes as Alyss struggled to hold onto life as she lay at his feet in a puddle of her own blood. "This is such a shame," the sigh that escaped his lips was almost wistful. "Such a beautiful face, such potential.... this could have been avoided if you were richer. If you could have given me a son," he hissed.
She couldn't answer. She would have given anything to curse him with her last breath but all that came out was a faint gurgle. She was dying.... he watched with a sick sense of pleasure while she struggled to keep the blood from pouring out of the wound. "We could have had such a handsome son too...." Conrad sighed again. Ignoring the pool of blood he got down on his knees and placed his wife's head in his lap. "But of course not. You claimed that you couldn't get pregnant, then I find out that you're planning to leave me for that man? Unacceptable! Your heart, dear, sweet, Alyss, belongs to me and to me alone." With those final words he picked up his knife and plunged it deep into her chest.
I'm dying, praying, bleeding and screaming
Aiden and Alyss were born in the year 1344 to proud parents, Jonathan and Alyssa Cooper in Munich, Germany. Everything was well... until Alyss reached the age of 5. Her mother and twin were claimed by the Black Death. Ever since the death of his only son and beloved he was never the same. By the time Alyss hit the age of 10 he was a heavy alcoholic. Alyss cared for her father until she met Conrad Darcy when she was only 16 years old. He promised to take care of her, so Jonathan accepted when he asked to marry his daughter. Shortly after the wedding Jonathan, devastated by the loss of his wife and only son, drank himself to death. At first everything was fine with Conrad. He took care of her, bought her clothing, gave her everything she asked for. All he wanted in return was son.... a son that Alyss was unable to give him. After a year of trying their marriage started to go downhill. Conrad turned to the bottle which only made him angry. And when he became angry his fists fell on Alyss. Tired of the abuse she planned to run off with another young man, only Conrad found out.... and slit her throat.
Am I too lost to be saved? Am I too lost?
She fought until her last breath, fought with every fiber in her being to cling to life. Somehow she managed to find the strength to pull the knife from her body, which had missed her heart by an inch. She didn't die that day, but neither did she live. Her heart stopped beating, her skin felt like cold marble to the touch, and she no longer needed to breath, but her mind still worked. The pain stopped after a while.... she awoke a few nights later only to find that her wounds had completely healed. Maybe if Conrad's knife had pierced her heart he wouldn't have created the monster that hunted him down and carved out his heart with the exact knife he used to end her human life.
PRESENT:
Since then Alyss has been traveling around the world, going from country to country, city to city, in order to keep what she is a secret. As soon as people started to get suspicious about the strange woman that never aged and was never seen out in the day time, she left. for the past 100 years she decided to make her way around the United States, with 50 of those years being spent in various parts of Alaska. So far because of Alaska's 30 days of night she had been able to walk around there freely and interact with the people there, making it her favorite place to live. But she couldn't stay there forever.
It was time for her to move on. If she stayed too long in Alaska people would start to become suspicious, so she found herself giving in to the alluring call of New York. She had spent some time there in the early 1920's where she had personally met Al Capone, so why not go back? Today Alyss finds herself working at the Birdland Jazz club and living a comfortable middle class life\. It was better to have a job and live in a small apartment where she wouldn't be noticed then in a richly furnished mansion.

LIKES:
-Solitude. One of the reasons why she loved Alaska so much was because it was the once place where she was able to be truly alone and not have anyone bother her. -Music. From the soothing melodies of classical piano music to the eccentric wailing of the guitar in rock, there's nothing she can relate to more then music. It's her passion, her life, her reason to keep on living because without music, there would be nothing. No color. No expression. No beauty. No life. -Horses. Despite her ice queen demeanor it is possible for Alyss to love a living creature. She's far from being an animal lover but horses are different. There's nothing better then riding on a horse's back and feeling all that strength, speed, and power at your command. The freedom that comes from galloping off at full speed on the back of such a majestic creature is something that can't be put into words. -Graveyards. It's one the very few places where she can be away from the living but still be surrounded by an abundance of emotions and memories. They're one of the very few places people of all ages, races, human or nonhuman, can exist in perfect harmony. -Tattoos. Unconventional for a vampire but she likes them all the same. There's something about getting a permanent work of art inked onto skin that has always fascinated her, especially when there's a meaning behind the art. -Aquariums. It's one of the very few places where she can be surrounded by people and be ok with it. Water has always been very calming for her and she enjoys seeing the fishes swimming around in their tanks in bliss. Fish don't have very many emotions, but everything about the aquarium is associated with joy and a sense of peace.
DISLIKES:
-Subways. Too many people in too small of a place. Amazing that she has no problem being at an overly crowded concert but can't stand being on a subway for any amount of time. -Teenagers. Especially modern day teenagers. They're too loud, too emotional, and have no respect for themselves or anyone else. She rather be stuck in a subway for hours on end instead of a large room with three teenagers for ten minutes. By the end of minute 3 their blood would probably paint the walls. -Rap. There's nothing talented about "spitting rhymes" into a microphone with no real instruments to to add expression to the music. -Werewolves. It has nothing to do with the so-called "rivalry" between the two races either. Alyss just isn't fond of dogs or the werewolves. They're rude, self centered, and smell like a filthy animal that hadn't bathed in years. Not months, YEARS.
FEARS:
-Direct sunlight. How can a vampire NOT fear sunlight when a single ray is enough to cause severe damage? -Exposure. As soon as someone begins to get suspicious she packs her things if she has times and leaves. The last thing she wants is the authorities getting involved or any of the other races trying to hunt her down. -Confinement. The thing she values the most is her freedom, and her biggest fear is of being caged. She's also mildly claustrophobic. -Falling. It's not as if a short fall can kill her, but she hates the feeling of her stomach dropping and the feeling everyone gets right before they hit the floor. She has nightmares of falling of cliffs, of being pushed off a plane, of falling and falling with no end in sight.
HOPES:
Her greatest hope is to finally be free. Free from fear, free from oppression, free to go wherever she wants whenever she wants, free to be herself. She also hopes to make her long life one worth living. There's no point in being an immortal when life has no meaning, no point. OTHER INFO:
-Alyss is fluent in English, Russian, German, and Italian. -She's an accomplished pianist and has been playing for centuries. -With no blood flow, her skin is always icy to the touch. The only time her skin has the warmth of a human is right after she feeds. -Since she's a psychological vampire she's a very strong empath, and whenever she touches certain objects or enter certain places she can feel all of the emotions associated with it.

Critiquing for you, since its always hard to review your own work - You've a conflict in her orientation: a psychological vampire after blood?
- Her history basically states that she wasn't turned via bite and so has no sire. Depending on what's clarified in the Vampire-Race description thread, this may have to be altered
- Not sure how Alyss managed to make millions of dollars (she hasn't been able to work until recently because of the sun, after all) - should probably be clarified a bit in her history.
- Her history explains her human life only. IF there have been any major events in her unlife, they should probably be added
- The piano was invented in 1698 (by written record, surviving physical pianos come from 1720s). Before that we had the harpsichord, but that was a men's instrument. Women had the virginal, if their families were rich, but its pretty different to the piano too... So she might have been practicing the piano for centuries, but she didn't learn as a child.
- If her family was well off enough for her to learn the viginal as a child: remember that a) we've the Black Plague b)From the sounds of it, her father wasn't in a state to see hse started learning the same year half their family died.
Those are the big problems that jump out at me. Aside from those - all little things, really - it looks good.
