Dryads are earth spirits, originated from Greek mythology. More specifically, dryads are tree nymphs, mostly female beings that live around and protect trees. They are the literal spirit of a tree.
Tree nymphs are often beautiful, the embodiment of natural beauty; this is their nymph heritage; however, each nymph's beauty tends to correspond with their spirit. Dryads tend to be taller than other nymphs, and live much longer than most. Both Dryads and Half-Blood Dryads change emotionally with the seasons, in direct accordance to the state of their tree.
(Dryads cannot be bound to evergreen trees, as the soul of a dryad is constantly changing.)
Full-blood tree nymphs are often defenseless unless near their specific tree, where they gain protection from the tree itself.
Full dryads have a more difficult time blending in with those in the city, as they grow weak when away from their tree. A human/dryad child does not require the strength of the tree; however, they are much less powerful than a full dryad. They can blend with humans better.
A half-blood tree nymph can gain protection from any tree of her variety (an oak half-dryad could find any oak tree). However, their power towards their tree is limited, and their soul is corrupted because of their human heritage.
All dryads, and most other nymphs, have a special affinity with all forms of nature, though are most proficient in their specific category. Nymphs and half nymphs often live much longer than their human counterparts, sometimes by almost a century; however, when their tree dies, they die. Nymphs can mate with humans, though often choose not too as they almost always outlive them.
A full dryad would die if their tree died; a half-dryad would live, as they are not drawn to any particular tree. HOWEVER, if a half-dryad cannot find one of their types of tree for a long period of time, they will weaken and eventually expire.

- Spring: Dryads are the happiest this season. They appear younger, and often feel healthiest.
- Summer: The Dryads are strongest in the summer. Their bravery and leadership skills increase significantly, along with their powers.
- Autumn: They are often at peace this season. Tree Nymphs become quiet and philosophical, sometimes resembling elves.
- Winter: The Dryad is often at their wisest during the winter. They generally feel weak and, in some cases, slight depression.

Full-blood tree nymphs are often defenseless unless near their specific tree, where they gain protection from the tree itself.
- When near their tree, the dryad can hide inside their tree for protection. The tree itself will do anything to protect the nymph.
- Dryads have healing powers, or an earth/nature related power
- If a full-blood tree nymph sacrifices some of their life force, they can crawl in the tree and cause it to come to life. They can use their tree as a weapon, controlling it from the inside. This can only be used for a short length of time, but is effective and a weapon.

- A half dryad can hide inside any tree of their particular species, though it will not defend them.
- If a half dryad brings a tree to life to fight for them, they WILL immediately die.
- If they have powers, it will be the same as the dryad parent, but because their soul is bound to no particular tree (and thus not receiving its strength), they're powers are usually not distinguished enough to be effective
